xTupler #24 — Training, any way you want it

xTupler #24  |  June 2012

Dear Community —

We're always looking for better ways to help people become proficient with xTuple software. Our in-classroom training classes are always well attended and offer great opportunities to network and share with other xTuple users; check out the upcoming back-to-back classes in the Washington D.C. area in August.

We know that a week's worth of travel to the U.S. is not always practical - or affordable - for everyone, and we've been working to develop new online offerings to help close the gap for users looking for a different kind of help.

Of course, we regularly host free webinars intended primarily as sales/demo type introductions for people learning about xTuple for the first time. And we've done some longer-form paid webinars around narrow topic areas like report writing or a particular add-on module.

I'm pleased to report that we continue to make progress in this important area, and the recent two-day, twelve-hour distance learning class on "Project Management and Implementation Methodologies" was a huge (and sold out) hit. It wasn't intended as a replacement for the classroom training - in fact, it's really best viewed as a follow-up to the "Setup, Configuration and Operation" class, particularly if you're new to xTuple or ERP in general.

If you're one of the thousands of companies that have downloaded xTuple and have some portion of your business running on the software today, the distance learning class is well worth your time. We're taking reservations for the next class now. The sooner you get in touch, the more influence you can have over when we schedule the class (we haven't finalized dates yet). Please drop us a line today at [email protected] to learn more.

Thanks, as always, for your support of xTuple. Please let us know how we can help you grow your business, and grow your world.

Ned Lilly
President and CEO

Tech Tour featured xTuple's Mobile Web App

Director of Product Development John Rogelstad ran the gauntlet of conference tours in May previewing xTuple's new Mobile Web App at PGCon in Toronto, the Open Source Business Conference in San Francisco and O'Reilly's inaugural Fluent JS conference also in San Fransisco.

John reports that xTuple is on the cutting edge as the first company to adopt JavaScript on all three application tiers, including Client, Web Services and Database, and also to the first company to create an Object Relational Manager (ORM) that directly leverages PostgreSQL's native object-relational architecture.

xTupleR Staffer Feature

Scott Church
Sales & Support Engineer

Welcome, Scott, to the full-time xTuple team - now a Sales and Support Engineer.

Scott joined xTuple in July of 2010 as a Sales Associate intern, working alongside Wally Tonra (VP-Sales) and Danielle Kerner (Business Development Director) to help develop prospects and generate new partners. Scott's time at xTuple helped him understand - and appreciate - the importance of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and how xTuple helps a business grow.

While interning at xTuple, Scott earned class credits at Old Dominion University for his study of the importance of ERP in supply chain management by attending xTuple's Setup, Configuration & Operation training class.

Scott recently finished his B.S in Business Administration, double majoring in Maritime and Supply Chain Management and Decision Sciences. Scott grew up in Fairfax, Virginia, and now resides in Norfolk and works at xTuple HQ.

Scott is on LinkedIn and Facebook.

xTuple Partner Feature: Muse Systems

Muse Systems is a San Francisco Bay Area-based business systems services company and has been an xTuple partner since Muse's inception in 2009. Muse provides consulting services to dozens of companies using xTuple to run their businesses. In addition to xTuple, Muse Systems supports other open source technologies such as Drupal, does integration systems work and general information technology (IT) management consulting.

Steven C. Buttgereit, Muse Systems' founder and principle consultant, has nearly two decades of experience as an enterprise systems architect and IT manager. He held senior management positions with Virgin Entertainment Group (Virgin Megastores), Party America (now Party City) and Design Within Reach. Working as an ERP implementation consultant, Steve provided consulting and project management services to clients including 24 Hour Fitness, Gateway Computers, Kelly-Moore Paint Company and Ratner Companies (Hair Cuttery, Bubbles). Steve is a member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).

"We continue to be enthusiastic supporters of xTuple. xTuple is in a 'sweet spot' as compared to ERP companies: xTuple is a company big enough to have stability and depth of resources, while not being so big as to lose touch with their customers. xTuple's current product and the new product [Mobile Web App] are adaptable to a wide variety of infrastructures from on-premise to cloud; and they have the openness, honesty, and community that comes with solid open source projects... what's not to like? We're really excited about xTuple's new product and we're convinced that it will provide even more opportunities for our customers," Steve says.
